8 Scuba Diving Centers in Bali That Helped Me Conquer the Deep
When I was younger, I had thalassophobia or fear of deep water. And before anyone asks, it’s different from aquaphobia—I was teased about being scared of water or taking baths—I was not! I’d just freak out whenever my mom said we were going to the beach.
The thought of swimming in the ocean, when we haven’t explored over 80% of it, used to be unthinkable. But 5 years ago, I finally decided to face my biggest fear before getting married—and having a son. I figured I needed to be strong and set an example.
So I asked my water-loving friends to join me at a scuba diving center in Bali. They were surprised but happy to help. It was tough, but I got distracted when I saw all the lovely marine life I’d been missing out on! Here are the top dive shops we’ve been to so far.
Where can I go scuba diving in Bali?
There are a bunch of spots where you can go scuba diving in Bali! Explore notable dive shops, like S.E.A. Diving Bali, Tulamben Dive, Nusa Dua Dive Centre, Adventure Divers Bali, and Nico Dives Cool Bali for a fun underwater adventure!

Love discovering new things about history? Tulamben Dive is a local scuba diving service provider near the USAT Liberty Wreck, the most famous dive site in Bali.
Divers of all levels are welcome here, so anyone can try scuba, macro diving, and snorkeling. You can also play “I Spot” with numerous creatures, like harlequin shrimp, hawksbill, lionfish, clownfish, bumphead fish, and grouperfish!
There are about 15 unique diving locations in Tulamben, but we like that the divers can explore as many as they want. Apart from the shipwreck, its other featured dive sites are the Coral Garden, Batu Kelebit, and Melasti—worth exploring too, in our opinion.
Our recommendation: Need help with accommodations? Consider staying at Tulamben Dive’s villa—it’s only 400 meters from the beach and the main road to Tulamben! If you’re coming with a big crew, you may also rent 2 double rooms or the entire villa for 6 persons upon request. |

Adventure Divers Bali is a dive shop located at the meeting point of the Pacific and the Indian Ocean. This puts it right at the heart of what’s known as the “Indonesian Throughflow.” For us, this gives it a strategic diving location with amazing biodiversity!
Whether you want to see rare nudibranchs or sea slugs, spot the elusive pygmy seahorse, or dive with majestic mantas and Mola Molas—all can be done easily from here! What’s more, we like that the staff can take photos for you without extra charge.
We also think it’s commendable that there are many courses to dive into. This includes Try Scuba, Open Water Diver, Refresher, Advanced, Rescue and First Aid, Divemaster, and other specialty courses to cover all diving skill levels and preferences.
Insider scoop: We say be quick to book your dives at Adventure Divers Bali! There are only 5 bungalows to stay in, so we feel it wouldn’t hurt to reserve weeks (or even months) in advance. After all, it would be much easier to cancel later if you have to. |
